Metal Detectable O-Rings
Introduction to Metal Detectable O-rings

In industrial processing, O-rings are subjected to extreme temperatures, continuous vibration, and corrosive in-situ cleaning (CIP) chemicals over long periods, gradually leading to aging and failure. Once the seal fails, rubber fragments from the O-rings and gaskets detach and enter the product flow with the sanitation system. When such failures occur, operators typically need to shut down the machine for manual visual inspection to check for contaminants within the system, potentially causing unplanned downtime, production losses, and safety hazards.
Why do production lines need metal-detectable O-rings?
Metal-detectable O-rings are of irreplaceable importance to the pharmaceutical, food, and beverage industries, especially in scenarios where the final product is intended for human consumption.
When a metal-detectable O-ring breaks, the resulting fragments can be accurately identified by metal detectors or X-ray inspection equipment before entering the production system. Typically, these inspection devices can capture O-ring fragments as small as 2 millimeters. Workers can then remove contaminants promptly through manual sorting or magnetic adsorption, ensuring the safety of the final product and meeting relevant FDA regulations.
If metal-detectable O-rings are not used in the production process, detached ordinary rubber fragments can easily escape routine inspection procedures, leading to product contamination. This will result in high costs, especially in cases requiring large-scale product recalls, and can cause irreversible damage to brand reputation.
Metals can detect compounds with O-rings
Metal-detectable O-rings offer similar performance to traditional elastomer O-rings, exhibiting excellent resistance to high and low temperatures, mechanical wear, and corrosion. We offer a variety of metal-detectable O-rings in various materials and colors.
| Compounds | Material | Durometer | Color | Temp Range (F) | Description |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| N70-C401 | NBR | 70 | Blue | -40 to +212 | Metal/X-ray detectable, FDA-Grade |
| N75-F701 | NBR | 75 | Green | -40 to +212 | Metal/X-ray detectable, FDA-Grade |
| S75-F601 | Silicone | 75 | Red | -76 to +437 | Metal/X-ray detectable, FDA-Grade |
| V75-F401 | FKM | 75 | Blue | -15 to +450 | Metal/X-ray detectable, FDA-Grade |
Many manufacturing companies now use Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point (HACCP) procedures, which require that all parts that come into direct contact with the product be detectable by metal detectors and X-rays.
Metal-detectable O-rings perfectly meet this requirement. KODA offers a full range of FDA-compliant metal-detectable O-rings in sizes including AS568 and metric standards. For more information or a quote, please call +86 18730921709 or submit a product inquiry.
